The closure consisted of a partial daytime lane reduction and a full nighttime closure of the freeway’s northbound lanes between Getty Center Dr. and Ventura Blvd. Approximately 5.6 miles long, the closures equal two thirds of the length of the entire I-405 Sepulveda Pass Improvements Project. Mr. Aaron Calderon prepared the TMP for the construction operation, provided agency coordination, obtained agency approval, and helped manage the construction operation.
405 Sepulveda Pass "Carmageddon I and II"
The planned 53-hour closures of the freeway were needed to dismantle the north/south side of the Mulholland Bridge over the 405. Anticipated to be a traffic nightmare with the extensive engineering and coordination efforts provided, it was a successful operation. As stated by the LA METRO, “Last weekend’s closure of the 405 FWY represented a historic moment in our regions long traffic history. Bracing- and preparing- for the worst, we were rewarded with a day of surprisingly smooth driving and lower stress.” DC Engineering staff were responsible for local agency coordination and design
